How to Forgive the Past and Look Forward to the Future
The question I get asked very often is Brian “How do I forgive my past and look forward to the future?” This question is far more common than you may think or realize. Past experiences where we have been hurt either emotionally, physically or sexually can have a dominating impact on our lives if we don’t learn how to forgive the past and look forward to the future. Now you might ask “How do I look forward to the future when all I’ve gotten is heartbreak?” The answer is a simple one yet it is extremely difficult to practice unless you learn how to forgive your past and look forward to the future by wiring or changing your current way of thinking. No matter what happened in the past we all have the ability to completely transform our lives when we learn to think and act in a certain way.
Many wonder why their life seems to be stuck in neutral when others seem to be hitting the gas and riding smooth on the road of life. It may seem like they are happy and succeed in whatever they try and never experience misfortune, but the truth is that dealing with certain life experiences that may have been painful either emotionally or physically caused these individuals to take a look in the mirror and examine themselves and what they want out of life. The fact is that we can’t control what others do, say or feel about us but we do control how we respond and how it impacts the way we live. The first step to forgive that past and look forward to the future requires us the accept personal responsibility for our thoughts and our actions. When you accept responsibility for your life you have placed yourself in complete control of how you choose to live and act.
We should learn to release the thoughts of pain, fear, and disappointment with thoughts of good times, love and happiness. The same painful feeling that come from harboring the bad times can be transformed into pleasant and happy thoughts that come from thinking of the good times you have had. The good times should be used as motivation to experience these good times and feelings in the present. If someone has wronged you in the past you must understand that carrying animosity towards them around with you will only damage you and can severely effect your way of life. We should practice the ability to forgive the person or the act. This does not and should not be done for any one’s benefit but yours.
The ability to forgive someone or something that has done you wrong is the ultimate sign of self control and discipline. This is the key to attracting more success because you can’t open yourself up to better things until your release the old unwanted baggage that has held you back. Now is the time to break free from the chains of pain and live your life with the light of love and happiness. Know in your heart that you are a special, unique and beautiful being who is more than what someone or something has done to you. Many people are afraid to forgive the past and look forward to the future because they have identified themselves with their past and they believe that if they lose their past that they won’t know who they are. That is a false sense of reality because our true identity is one of beauty, light and consciousness or Knowledge of Self.
